This is our first St Julien made by Château Branaire-Ducru. Cabernet Sauvignon dominates, but an almost equal dose of Merlot ensures a soft, approachable style. The nose is perfumed and fruit-driven, with raspberries and blackberries lifted by floral aromas and a hint of menthol. The palate is juicy and moreish, with blackcurrants layered upon hedgerow berries and vibrant red currants. The tannins are generous but silky, bringing structure and depth. Enjoy it with roast vegetables or chicken, though it certainly holds its own alongside a leg of lamb.
