Berry Bros. & RuddNews
This is the winery's flagship red, of which 220,000 bottles are produced. The 2013 Allende was cropped from a wet and cool year with an early harvest that started on September 27th. The grapes come from vineyards in Briones on clay-rich soils, and the destemmed but uncrushed grapes fermented in stainless steel after a six-day cold soak at 5 degrees Celsius. The wine matured in French oak barrels for 14 months with rackings every four months. It's toasty and with a lactic touch, notes of toffee and something leafy (tea, tobacco). The palate is medium-bodied with some grapey flavors and fine tannins. A lighter vintage of Allende. It was bottled in February 2016.
