With a wine culture developed since Ancient Rome, Italy is one of the classic Old World wine countries. They are known for their Prosecco, Pinot Grigio, and Chianti, but also offer world renowned wines such as Barolo, Barbaresco, Brunello di Montalcino, and Super Tuscans. The country's varied climate creates regional wines with a plethora of flavors and styles. Italy's Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MIPAAF) has 350 authorized varieties, however there are 500 varietals yet to be documented officially.
